The words we share
This lexicon defines the core concepts used across the youaretheboss platform — so customers, consultants and teams speak the same language.
Requester & Consumer
The Requester expresses and structures the need. The Consumer is the person who works operationally with the Professional Service. They can be the same person — but not always.
Professional Service (PS)
A Professional Service is a structured engagement built around a defined customer need. It combines the service, technology and delivery context required to perform useful work.
- A PS can be delivered on-site, remotely or in hybrid mode.
- A PS can contain one or more Tasks.
- Consumption is recorded against the work actually performed and submitted for customer approval.
Task
A Task is a unit of delivery inside a Professional Service. A PS can contain several Tasks, each with work to perform and a deadline or delivery expectation defined in the PS Request.
- The consultant records the work and time performed for each Task.
- Tasks are submitted to the customer for validation as delivery progresses.
- Approved Task consumption can enter the billing and payment workflow.
Resource
A resource is a professional who can be considered to deliver a Professional Service in a given context. The resource remains a person with their own business, expertise, availability and working preferences — not a commodity.
Consultant
A consultant is an independent professional who selects the services and technologies they want to offer within the shared platform catalog. For each submitted catalog entry, the consultant provides the relevant experience and credentials before Skills Validation.
Skills Validation
The service-specific process used before a consultant catalog entry can be published. The entry is challenged through practical scenarios related to the service and is revalidated every six months.
- Validation applies to a specific catalog entry, not to the person globally.
- Vendor or industry certifications remain separate professional credentials.
- Only validated catalog entries can be published as available expertise.
Need Qualification Phase
The process of turning a raw need into a usable PS Request. The lightest path that creates enough clarity should be used:
- Guided self-service — structure a straightforward request directly through the console
- AI-assisted — use guided natural-language assistance to clarify and complete the request
- Human pre-sales qualification — bring in human support when deeper clarification is required before kickoff
Domain
A domain is a technological area of expertise — such as Infrastructure, Cloud, Data, Cybersecurity, AI, DevOps or Observability. Each domain contains subdomains and scopes that precisely define the technical need.
General Catalog (Published)
The shared catalog of service types, actions and technology contexts available on the platform. It is the common structure from which customers create PS Requests and consultants build their offering.
Consultant Catalog
The consultant's own selection of services drawn from the shared catalog. Each published entry carries the consultant's relevant experience, credentials and current Skills Validation for that specific service.
Market Signal
An informational view of market demand and specialist availability. Market signals can inform pricing configuration and editorial context, but they do not automatically set the live customer price.
Service Class
The seniority level attached to the resource profile used for pricing and routing:
- Junior — 1 to 5 years of experience
- Mid-Junior — 5 to 10 years
- Senior — 10+ years
